Happy New Bathroom!

February 10, 2016

The New Year is a great time to reorganize, refresh and renew ourselves and our homes.  I love to get back into a work out routine and change out pillows, plants and flowers.  I feel as if I am already a month behind but I am finally getting there!

This year I’m also planning to remodel our master bathroom.  It has been a long time coming!!

Here are a few pics of my inspiration bathrooms.

White cabinets with marble is where I think I’m headed.  This bathroom is just gorgeous!!

Although I love dark cabinets with the marble (and my husband prefers them!).

I am also considering a stand alone tub. This picture is actually very similar to my current space.  (Minus the gorgeous tile, lamps and niches.)

A master bathroom takes a great deal of time to design, budget, and complete.  I will continue to post and add some “before” pictures for you to enjoy.  But for now, enjoy the “afters” that I am dreaming about.

Have a great day!

The Lisa Chair

August 7, 2015

My most recent project is the Lisa Chair.  A vintage chair and ottoman I curated and refurbished for a very dear friend.

Before:

After:  New feather cushions were created with a larger pillow back.  A custom mahogany stain was used to freshen up the wood and the large scale Ikat fabric was the finishing touch.  Love it!

Lighting Solution

July 11, 2015

Lighting is one design problem that needs to be addressed.  Without lighting a room is difficult to be in. Lighting problems can be solved by installing canned lighting in the ceiling, but the lighting can be harsh and it does not solve the issue of task lighting.

While working on a home office remodel I came across a wonderful solution. Battery operated lamps. They are both beautiful and functional. My internet search brought me to lamps by Modern Lantern.  Here is a picture of the lamp my client chose:

We placed two of these lamps on my client’s desk which we floated in the middle of the room. (Pics of the remodel coming soon.)  There are no cords to hide and no electrical boxes that had to be installed into the floor. These lamps are beautiful and functional. (They even work well in a power outage!)

I love the lamps by Modern Lantern for many reasons but I think I love the story behind Modern Lighting even more:

“Over twenty years of designing and developing home products and interiors, the husband and wife team, Stephen and Carrie Fitzwater, have combinted their talents to fill the void of ‘what’s been missing’ in residential lighting, lighting that can go anywhere. We are proudly now in our third year of operation in Fort Worth, Texas and currently even build our Made in the USA line right here too in our warehouse.”

Draperies: Before and After

June 7, 2015

Draperies and pillows can be ornamental and they can be functional.  Sometimes they are both.  Sometimes they don’t seem necessary, but they can really complete and define an already beautiful room.

Here is a before and after of a home I have recently completed with new custom draperies and coordinating pillows.  Just beautiful!!

When to reupholster?

April 30, 2015

Have you ever wondered if reupholstering a piece of furniture is worth the cost and effort?  When in doubt, you may want to consider the following questions: 1) Does this piece of furniture have sentimental value? If so, would you use it more and be happier if it was updated with fresh fabric and reimagined? 2) Does this piece of furniture bring you joy? Sometimes we have furniture in our house that we don’t even look at, sit in, or even see anymore. And 3) Is this piece of furniture worth the cost and effort? Honestly, some pieces of furniture are not.

If a piece of furniture does not bring you any joy and you are holding on to it regardless, then I suggest you sell, consign, donate or give away that piece. If you love the furniture and/or it is comfortable, then go for it! Reupholstering a piece of furniture not only saves the land fill, it can completely change the way a piece of furniture looks and functions.

The cost of reupholstering is cheaper than you might think.  I would be happy to help you reimagine and reupholster that piece of furniture if you are in the San Diego area!

Here is a before and after of my new “favorite” piece.

Before it was a cute chair:

After it is a stunning chair:

Definitely worth it!

Perfect Paint Colors

March 22, 2015

I recently had the interior of my house painted.  After A LOT of paint samples, I ended up with the perfect paint colors from Farrow & Ball.  The colors are classic and beautiful.  There are 132 perfect Farrow & Ball paint colors to choose which helps to narrow down the choices.  Yes, you will still need to paint swatches all over your house or on poster boards, and view them at various times of the day. Color can look deceptively different depending upon the time of day and the lighting.  Perfection does come at a price, however.  Farrow & Ball is over $80 a gallon and not easy to come by. The good news, Sherwin Williams can recreate the colors using their Farrow & Ball formulas.  I ended up choosing Farrow & Ball’s Savage Ground for most of our downstairs.  I will be posting pictures of the end results soon!  For more information about Farrow & Ball, go to:  http://us.farrow-ball.com.

Before and After – Antique Settee

November 9, 2014

One of my favorite things to do is help clients update their furniture. Recently I was honored to help my wonderful friend and client with her great grandmother’s antique settee. Here are the before and after pictures. New fabric and nail heads were added. The wood was restored to it’s original luster. Custom pillows were also made to finish the bedroom off and tie everything together.
